hmmm .. very interesting

very interesting but as i was reading, it struck me that somehow the two questions raised about worst obesity and worst criminal statistics were related and opposite to each other ... which they are NOT. while indoor games (techies) and outdoor games (jocks) are sub-parts of 'games' but lack of one or the other are not the contributing factors to obesity and crime. in my school teaching years, i have come across techies who were the worst plagiarists (stealing from others) and jocks who were worst of obese kind, no matter how much they sweated out. i think we are looking at unrelated issues here. major contributing factor to obesity is not so much as lack of exercise but rapid change of eating styles - calorie-rich, processed, fast food. major factor affecting crime is lack of quality time with peers and family, lack of parental input into the individual's developmental stages of life, the wide-spread introduction of laws that do not balance the rights and responsibilities of children vs parents thus pitting them against each other and leading to tearing of social fabric of family unit.coming back to the topic heading "impact of technology on families" ... my opinion is that technology per se will be exploited by business world / political world to create an individual of the future who will be made to live in fear as a single unit physically / mentally in isolation without the need of social and physical interaction with other individuals - virtual world. we are being converted from being a socially connected animal with primary needs of physical interfacing with others through speech, touch, smell and look to being an individual being manipulated by forces that can not be handled by individual living in isolation and fear. on the flip side, technology is providing means to communicate across the globe .. creating global village, providing means to complete dangerous tasks without physical input (safe environs), monotonous tasks being handled by machines, providing more time at our disposal to spend as we wish .. whether playing on computers and ipods or out being a star jock. however hard i tried not to mention the word "BALANCE" but i apologise for using it. balance and equilibrium are laws not limited only to physics but to every aspect of nature, we included otherwise the whole natural ecosystem will crumble taking with it our jocks and techies and technology and families.
